Trainee Office Management Assistant

Career history:
From student to trainee

With my school leaving certificate under my belt in 2018, my wish was to study law in Würzburg. Therefore, I moved there straight away after leaving school. Unfortunately, after a few months I realised that I did not like the course: the subjects were too dry for me. While looking for another, more interesting course, I came upon International Economics at the University of Tübingen, where I studied for two semesters. However, though I liked the course very much, to me it lacked practical relevance. That was one of the reasons why I decided to stop being a student and start training for a career instead. The job profile for an office management assistant struck me as especially interesting because the skills acquired during training could be used in many different departments and hence the potential fields of work are diverse. I enjoyed living in Würzburg so much during my time there as a student that I applied for a trainee position at the headquarters of STEAG SENS. That was the best decision I have made to date.

Vocational school and work:
A flexible combination

At present, I attend the vocational school in Würzburg twice a week. On Mondays we have lectures for the whole day and on Fridays for only half a day. Because all our staff work flexitime, I find it easy to combine attending vocational school and work. The subjects taught are interesting and based on my practical experience as a trainee at work, which is why I find the things I learn in lectures quite natural to apply in practice.

Benefits:
Responsibility right from the start

For me personally, working flexible hours is of great benefit: on days when I have commitments at home or must attend school, I can vary my working hours to suit. As trainees, we have the freedom to put forward our own ideas and gain from short decision-making pathways. My varied and interesting tasks allow me to learn something new every day and to take another step forward in my development.

Work environment:
Always a listening ear

The work environment is very modern and has all the latest equipment. Everyone is so open and friendly that chats often take place in the corridor or in the staff kitchen. Should problems or concerns about work or study arise, the training manager is always willing to listen and work out a solution with the trainee. Trainees are never left to fend for themselves. Much organisational effort goes into ensuring their time at work is increasingly rewarding!
