Description
Wasserwerke Westfalen GmbH uses its own solar park at the water utility in Echthausen to generate electricity. The 745 kWp PV ground-mounted system is used 100 % for its own consumption in order to power the drinking water treatment with renewable electricity. For this purpose, Iqony Sens installed a total of 1,700 modules, which will produce approximately 700 MWh of electricity annually. The modules were constructed in a water protection area of zone II, which is a lighthouse project for other water utilities. Not only the permitting procedure had to meet very strict requirements, but also the construction phase. But the project in Echthausen shows that the preservation of water protection zones can be in harmony with the expansion of solar energy.
The solar park saves around 300 tonnes of CO2 per year.
