STEAG (Iqony) takes over GILDEMEISTER energy solutions

Under a new flag into the future

STEAG strengthens its position in the growth market of renewable energies and acquires GILDEMEISTER energy solutions

The energy company STEAG is strengthening its position in the international growth market of renewable energies. Subject to approval by the anti-trust authorities, the Group’s subsidiary STEAG Energy Services GmbH (SES) will be taking over GILDEMEISTER energy solutions from Bielefeld-based DMG MORI AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT as of 1 July 2019. The machine tool manufacturer DMG MORI had entered the market for solar technology in 2007. Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

"With the takeover of GILDEMEISTER energy solutions, we have achieved the strategically important strengthening of our service portfolio, particularly with regard to the megatrend of photovoltaics. With the extensive know-how and the international network of GILDEMEISTER energy solutions, we are taking a major step forward in this growth market," says Joachim Rumstadt, Chairman of the Board of Management at STEAG GmbH.

"GILDEMEISTER energy solutions is passing into good hands. We are pleased to have found in STEAG a strategic investor with outstanding prospects for our employees," says Dr Maurice Eschweiler, a Chief Representative of DMG MORI AKTIENGESELLSCHAFT. "Our focus is on our core competencies as sustainable and global innovator in the manufacturing industry". Today, DMG MORI concentrates on its core business with machine tools and services, and the expansion of the future fields of automation, digitalisation and ADDITIVE MANUFACTURING.

The employees of GILDEMEISTER energy solutions at the headquarters in Würzburg as well as the subsidiaries in Stuttgart, Italy and Spain are being taken over by SES. In the future, the new company will trade under the name STEAG Solar Energy Solutions and bear the brand name SENS. "Photovoltaics is a future field in which we as STEAG want to grow strongly. I am convinced that with SENS we will be able to take advantage of the project opportunities that present themselves to us even more successfully," says Joachim Rumstadt, welcoming the youngest member of the STEAG family.
