SENS builds a PV plant in Leuuwarden, Friesland

12 MWp PV solar park in the Netherlands

SENS builds further PV plant in neighbouring country

The portfolio of STEAG Solar Energy Solutions GmbH continues to grow: only recently, the solar energy specialists succeeded in acquiring a new contract in the Netherlands. In Leeuwarden, Fryslân, SENS is building a solar park on an area of 13 hectare for the Norwegian investor Energeia AS and its subsidiary EAM Leeuwarden BV. Subsequently, SENS will also be responsible for operation and maintenance of the solar plant.

Construction of the Solar Parks is scheduled to start in January 2020. After completion of the project, the PV system will produce around 11,000 MWh of solar electricity per year. The total capacity is 12 MWp. The location poses a particular challenge in the planning of the open-space installation. "Like about half of the area of the Netherlands itself, the open-space park will be below sea level," emphasises Fabian Herr, Head of Projects at SENS. In addition to complex ground conditions, the plant must therefore also be constructed to be flood-proof. Besides, the complex soil conditions of the site and a high-voltage overhead line that crosses the site also have an impact on the PV system.

The experts from SENS are supported by a long-standing partner to STEAG Solar Energy Solutions: Sunotec GmbH, a subsidiary of the Berlin-based Sunotec Group, is responsible for both the installation of the substructure and the assembly of the solar modules on site. The commissioning of the new solar plant is planned for June 2020. The STEAG Solar Energy Solutions team is looking forward to further projects in the neighbouring country.

Winner of the Frisian Energy Prize 2019

We and our client Energeia won the Frisian Energy Prize 2019 with the completed solar park in Leeuwarden. Every year, the most interesting projects are awarded by the Dutch sustainability initiative Fûns Skjinne Fryske Enerzjy (FSFE).
