Storage successfully installed

OPTENDA implements solution for industrial customers

Only recently an overseas container was set up at the Vlotho-Exter site of packaging producer ALPLA. That alone wouldn’t be too newsworthy if the 20 feet container wasn’t some kind of special. There’s a powerful lithium nmc storage located inside of the container. From now on the storage is going to be a key component of the site’s supply of energy with a capacity of approx. 370 kwh and a power of 280 kw.

Based on a concept focussing on the topics energy production as well as storage and consumption, officials at ALPLA-Werke Lehner GmbH & Co. KG decided to integrate a lithium storage system among other things. “It is our goal to optimize the load management and cut power peaks via stored energy.” explains project manager Jan Handel who oversees the implementation on the part of OPTENDA, formerly GILDEMEISTER energy efficiency GmbH, “especially energy-intensive companies with high power peaks can benefit from such a solution”.

Due to lack of space, the outside of the company premises was picked as position for the container. An overseas container serves as protection against any weather condition. It is indeed a common, about six meters long transport container. However, it was provided with additional ventilation slots and a second door in advance – that said a custom-made.

OPTENDA was responsible for the entire project implementation, from supplier selection to delivery and on-site assembly. With a mobile crane, the container with the integrated storage technology was brought on the premises just in time in case of a potential onset of winter. In addition, the coordination of various internal and external people involved was part of the task of OPTENDA. Shortly before, the new PV rooftop system had already been commissioned, planned and implemented by the Würzburg colleagues of STEAG Solar Energy Solutions.

The ALPLA plants in Vlotho-Exter can thus be energetically optimized and start the new year with "green production".
