Wind and weather protection: SENS installs offshore photovoltaic roof-mounted system
Following the successful installation of a PV carport for a customer in the Croatian capital of Zagreb, SENS has now been commissioned with another project in Croatia. Start of construction was in September. By the end of the year, the new solar installation with a total capacity of 340 kWp will be put into operation.
The solar experts from Würzburg take care of the planning as well as the realisation of the PV installation on a foil roof. Project engineer Sascha Link recently took a two-day trip to Croatia for discussions with the investor, briefing the assembly team, and colluding with the security officer.
Due to the high level of solar radiation, the country of Croatia offers optimal conditions for the production of solar energy. The new plant is expected to produce 420 MWh of energy per year. However, the geographical location also poses challenges, since strong winds are not unusual in a coastal city like Sibenik. Special precautions are therefore taken at the solar substructure and additional deflector plates are installed laterally on the outer modules.
Its proximity to the harbor causes the modules to be heavily polluted by seagulls. After only a few days, clear marks of the droppings are visible. These stains can cause so-called "hot spots" (damage to the module) over a longer period of time. That's why the STEAG Solar Energy Solutions team developed a special cleaning concept and sent the customer future recommendations for action regarding cleaning agent, cleaning frequency and possible risks. That way, the system remains efficient in the long term and fewer losses are to be expected.
