From landfill to solar park

SENS completes the last phase of construction in Gadebusch

In former times the landscape was dominated by tonnes of waste, today the inhabitants of Gadebusch between Schwerin and Lübeck look out on green energy: a two-hectare area that was once a landfill site has become home to more than 10,100 solar modules.

The construction phases

After the first two construction phases of the solar park in Gadebusch were successfully implemented at the end of 2019, the facility with its total of four sections has now been finally completed about a year later. The PV project was created on behalf of Consilium Erneuerbare Energien eG, which has been working successfully with SENS for many years now. This fourth phase rounds off the installation with a further 2156 modules, which give the park an additional output of 743.82 kWp.

Since its start-up under the applicable renewable energies regulations in November the total output of this ground-mounted park has amounted to around 3 MWp. An annual yield of approximately 2,800 MWh is expected.

The cooperation

With this project Consilium Erneuerbare Energien eG is working towards its goal of ensuring the establishment of viable, decentralised energy supply concepts. Together with SENS and further prestigious partners, the consortium implements photovoltaic systems for the generation of green energy throughout Germany. As the general contractor and technical operations manager, SENS is supporting this project in line with its motto: “The future is renewable. Together.” In addition to the ground-mounted system in Gadebusch, in the past other projects have already been implemented by the cooperation, including the solar park completed in Oranienbaum (Saxony-Anhalt) last year.

Solar park built on former landfill site

With the completion of the ground-mounted solar park in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, the two-hectare area that was once a landfill site can now be used meaningfully to generate renewable energy. However, the cooperation between SENS and Consilium does not end there, because even after the successful completion of the project SENS will remain responsible for the system. In addition to the construction of the solar park, the Würzburg-based solar experts have also been commissioned to carry out the service operations and technical management.
