The feed-in remuneration promotes renewable energy. This is payment electricity generated from renewable energy which is fed into the public electricity grid. The fed-in electricity is recorded via a calibrated feed-in meter and invoiced to the power grid operator. The EEG provides for a so-called degression, i.e. an annual reduction in the feed-in remuneration. This degression was fixed for the years 2009 to 2011. In 2012 it depended for the first time on how many new power plants with renewable energy joined the grid the previous year. The more new installations are built, the less funding will be available in the following year.
